Diamond Jubilee.

Rose and Dick celebrated sixty years of marriage together with their family.  I sat waiting at the Onset Village parking lot to meet them all for the first time, anxious to see how the couple would react to their surprise anniversary photo session.  They had ate at the Daniel Webster and their family was taking the couple back to Onset Beach in memory of where they had first met.  Sometime during the early 1950's when Dick was stationed at Otis Airforce base he had met the woman who stole his heart one day at Onset.  He keenly asked her for sunscreen and she dismissed him.  Coincidentally they learned that they had mutual friends so Dick was persistent and finally won Rose over.  Fast foward:  they married, raised three girls in Berkley, and now have two beautiful granddaughters that are my age.   I was kindly welcomed to their home to continue their 60th anniversary celebration.  They shared with me some memoirs right in their own yard (which they landscape together): a handmade birch bird house from their deceased nephew miraculously hangs on a branch of a rotting tree, their waterfall of wisteria that has crept up to the top of their trees over the years, their daughters home built behind their property, the dogwood tree that grew next to the path towards their daughters, the tire swing that all the little ones in their family enjoy.  They also shared their wedding album with me.  Rose's wedding crown that she wore on her wedding day was kept in such good condition, and she was gleaming like a new bride when her family secretly brought it to the photo shoot.  It warmed my heart to see Rose and Dick so happy and in love, best friends, smiling and cuddling, kissing and teasing, looking back at beautiful memories. All the kind of true love that people hope for in their future.

I feel blessed to have met this family and to have witnessed a couple that have each others hearts after all these years.
